The name says it all for this quilt. It only requires 5 different fabrics, plain or textured works best but a small allover print would work nicely for the violet and green fabrics. Although it is hard to see this quilt is just a basic 8 pointed star. The unusual look is created in how I designed the diamond and square blocks to make the quilt. This makes a great sized throw or bed topper.

This quilt is not as difficult as it looks, it is basically just a Star quilt made with diamond and square shaped blocks. The fabrics I used are Shadow Play and Simpatico by Maywood Studios but it would look great in small prints or textures as well. Athough there is some curved piecing in the blocks they are very gentle and easy to sew. I have also introduced my match a dot system of quilting to make your blocks come out to the right size.

Galaxia was designed using the Aubrielle and Hand Spray collections by RJR Fabrics. It really is a spectacular quilt. Although the stars look very complicated but I have broken it down as best as I can to make it a little easier. Although in contains a lot of Y seams which could not be eliminated, with a little patience and by referring to my new Quilt Piecing Techniques page on the web site you will learn how to make them with precision.
